Magnolia

Magnolia trees are quite the grower! These trees max out at about 80 feet tall when grown in moist, well-drained soil. These slow-growing trees can take up to 20 years to reach their full size, so only grow them if you are willing to be patient!
Magnolia trees produce lovely white flowers during the spring and summer months and are native to the southern United States. If you want a tree that attracts wildlife to your yard, this is the tree for you!

Marsh Mallow

Quick Fact: Traditional sweet marshmallows used marsh mallow roots in their recipes!

Maltese cross plants are one of my absolute favorite flowers! They are stunning to see planted in gardens or used as fresh-cut flowers. This plant has tiny red, pink, or white flowers that cluster together on the top of their long stems.
This relative of the carnation flower thrives best when planted in full sun and grows up to 4 feet in height. Due to the heaviness of their clusters, they may need extra support along their stems once they are mature.
Quick Fact: The Maltese cross plant is also called the flower of Bristol and nonesuch!
Mandevilla

Mandevilla is a timeless flower that has 5 petal blooms that can be red, pink, or white. Their flowers grow to be about the size of a 50-cent piece, although different species can be smaller or larger.
This plant isn’t just beautiful, it’s also very fragrant, which is a great bonus! Plant this vine in areas that receive full or partial sun and watch it grow to be up to 10 feet long. Since Mandevilla is a tropical plant, it thrives in areas such as the southern United States, Central America, and South America.
Quick Fact: Mandevilla is also called rock trumpet!
Marguerite (Golden)

This plant thrives in sunny areas and grows well in gardens and pots. Their average height varies depending on how deep their stems are buried, but many can grow up to 4 feet tall.
Quick Fact: Signet Marigolds are edible! They make a great addition to salads and stir fry!
Matthiola

Matthiola is a fragrant plant that has a similar aroma to clover. It is a regal flower that stands tall with small blooms that are pink, purple, blue, or white. This multi-use flower can be eaten or used in bouquets or potpourri!

This plant is native to Asia and Europe. It loves moist, well-draining soil and can grow in full or partial sunlight. They are great for gardeners who don’t have a lot of experience and want an easy-to-care-for grower.
Quick Fact: Muscari is also called blue hyacinth or bluebells.
Meconopsis

Meconopsis is a great plant to choose if you want a plethora of bees and butterflies to visit your garden! This plant is not as common and requires a green thumb to get it going, but it is worth it when you see its gorgeous blue flowers!
Meconopsis needs fertile soil that is moist and slightly acidic. Their sunlight needs are touchy, they can’t be exposed to direct sunlight. Rather, they need indirect, dappled sunlight to keep them healthy.
Quick Fact: Meconopsis is also called Himalayan blue poppy or blue poppy!
Mimosa

Mimosa plants are a quick-growing plant that produces sensitive, purple flowers that react to the slightest touch. The flowers are so sensitive that even the breeze can cause them to fold inward!
These plants should be grown in areas that receive full or partial sunlight. They thrive best when they get 8 hours of daily sun. Soil conditions should not be too compact because their roots can’t thrive, and they won’t be able to grow.
Quick Fact: Mimosa plants are also called touch-me-not, sleepy plants, and sensitive plants.
Morning Glory

Morning glory plants are a type of flowering vine that produce elegant purple, blue, or white flowers that react to the morning sunlight! They are low maintenance and easy to grow in most gardens as long as they have full sun.
This vine can grow to be between 6 and 10 feet long, they will climb trellises, walls, or fences.
Quick Fact: Morning glory plants are toxic for humans and pets.
