Does UKC recognize bullies? ›

While these breeds were utilized in the creation of the American Bully, it is a breed of its own and should not specifically resemble any one in particular. The American Bully breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club on July 15, 2013.

A Kalamazoo, Michigan-based company founded in 1898, United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries.

31 October 2023 - the Government announced that the American Bully XL type dog had been added to the banned breeds list in England and Wales. 31 December 2023 - it became illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon or allow an American Bully XL type dog to stray.

Over decades, the pit-bull terrier developed the ability to attack suddenly, and sustain grave injuries without retreating. This genetic history is present in the XL Bully. “These dogs, being bred for aggression, are likely to inherit aggression,” says David Sargan, a geneticist at Cambridge Veterinary School.

The UKC is similar to the AKC in its focus on preserving purebred records, educating the public, and partnering with clubs to run dog shows and sporting events. But while the AKC prioritizes form above all else, the UKC's programs celebrate the entire package of looks, physical skill, and intelligence.

What does Purple Ribbon mean? "Purple Ribbon" is a distinction UKC gives to a dog if all 14 ancestors within a dog's three generation pedigree (parents, grandparents, great grandparents) are each registered with United Kennel Club, and are of the same breed.

Appearance. The United Kennel Club (UKC) and American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) breed standards are similar, except the ABKC recognises four varieties of size, based on height, whereas the UKC recognises only one standard size.
