I know the first question you will have for me is why do I call fordutch processed cocoa powderand what is the difference? There is a scientific/chemical answer but I won’t bore you with the food science behind it. Just know this, dutch processed cocoa powderwill give your brownies a richer, smoother chocolate flavor along with a sexy deep brown color. If it helps convince you, this is the type of cocoa powder that is used when making Oreos. Yes,dutch processed cocoa powderis more expensive than the cheap stuff but as with most ingredients in your baking, a couple extra dollars in one ingredient will make the world of difference in your end result.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 25 brownies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 1 C melted butter
  • 1/2 C dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 C sugar
  • 2 C flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 tsp vanilla

Frosting

  • 1/4 C butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 C milk
  • 1/4 dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 C powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 inch pan with nonstick spray or you can line it with parchment paper. In a large bowl, beat together the melted butter and cocoa powder with a wooden spoon, then add the sugar. Mix well before adding the flour. Add the eggs and vanilla together then mix well to combine until smooth.
  2. Bake for 25 minutes, then remove from the oven and allow them to cool for 15 minutes before frosting the still warm brownies. To make the frosting, mix all the ingredients together well in a medium bowl. If the frosting becomes too thick while waiting for the brownies, just add a dash of milk.
