Haslam’s Full-Time MBA develops both the breadth of business knowledge necessary to be a successful manager and the depth of knowledge in a concentration area to add more direct value to a business unit.

What You’ll Learn

The first year of Haslam’s Full-Time MBA builds a foundation of business knowledge and professional skills. The second year develops expertise for specialized interests and goals in a concentration area. Core courses are conducted in teams and students gain real-world knowledge and skills through case competitions, project-based work, a required internship and a global learning experience.

Key Components

Prep Course Week: An optional week of classes providing an overview of accounting, finance, statistics and Excel prior to the commencement of the first semester for accepted Haslam Full-Time MBA students. This program is designed for non-business majors and other students needing a business fundamentals refresher. Prep Course Week fees must be paid before students can participate.

LEAP Week: The first week of the Full-Time MBA program in which you LEAP: learn, engage, assess and present. Team building, presentation and negotiation skills and career development are the focus.

Business Skills Module: A practical skills course covering effective presentation and writing, use of technology-related platforms and career development, including cutting-edge job search techniques, self-marketing and correspondence, and networking.

Case Competitions: The first three sessions of the first year end with an integrated internal case competition reflecting current business issues. Select Haslam teams also compete in external case competitions including SEC, Deloitte, and National Black.

Internship: During the required summer internship, students apply the skills they have learned, develop valuable experience and build their professional network.

Global Business Seminar: At the end the first year, students obtain a firsthand look at the cultural, administrative and economic complexities of conducting business internationally through the Global Business Experience.

In the spring of the first year, students will choose a concentration area from one of five options. Concentration requirements typically include nine credit hours in a student’s last semester of the program and provide a deep dive into a functional area of business.

Haslam has the #3 ranked supply chain graduate program among public schools and offers multiple dual degrees that are similarly ranked. Candidates must satisfy the curriculum and graduation requirements of both degrees and both colleges. Students withdrawing from one degree program before completion will not receive credit toward graduation in their other degree program, except as such courses qualify for credit without regard to the dual degree program.

Grads to Golf

Grads to Golf is an outdoors and classroom program that introduces young professionals to golf early in their careers and promotes the importance of golf in business. Grads to Golf is open to dues-paying UT NAWMBA chapter members.

Big Orange Consulting’s mission is to enhance understanding of consulting principles and foster connections between the local community, alumni consultants, and the University of Tennessee MBA student population. The organization provides opportunities for members to explore different areasof consulting, practice case interviews with peers, and gain experience in consulting engagements when possible.

The mission of the Association of Graduate Business Veterans is to improve the educational environment for veteran students and build a better understanding between faculty and students. The organization seeks to build camaraderie and mentoring systems among veteran students.

The Torch Funds allow graduate and undergraduate students at the Haslam College of Business to gain experience managing a portfolio of securities on a live exchange. Students must apply to become Torch Fund managers, and the process is highly competitive. The college’s Carroll, Haslam, LaPorte, and McClain Torch Fund managers have unlimited access to the Masters Investment Learning Center’s resources to manage these funds.

Graduate Torch Funds

The Haslam and LaPorte Torch Funds provide Haslam’s first-year MBA students the opportunity to manage a portfolio of securities currently worth approximately $1.6 million combined.

The Graduate Student Senate represents the interests of all graduate and professional students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As the official voice of graduate and professional students, the senate provides the opinion of the graduate student body to administrators and works towards the betterment of the graduate and professional student experience on campus.

All Full-Time MBA and dual degree applicants to the Haslam College of Business must apply throughUT’s Graduate School. Candidates should review the graduate school’sadmission proceduresbefore applying.

Two references, transcripts, letters of recommendation, GMAT/GRE scores, TOEFL score (if applicable), professional resume or CV, and responses to a set of essay questions are necessary to complete the application. Applications can be submitted with unofficial transcripts; official versions are only required upon admission. Applicants will be considered for an exam waiver on a case-by-case basis pending a full review of the submitted application and interview with the Admissions Director. English Language Proficiency:Applicants whose native language is not English must score at least 600 or 100 IBT for the TOEFL or 7.5 for the IELTS. Test scores are valid for two years.

Dual Degrees: Applicants fordual degrees(JD-MBA, MBA-MS Agricultural Economics, MBA-MS Business Analytics, MBA-MS Engineering) must apply to both programs. Students interested in entering JD-MBA must also submit a letter of application to the Dual Program Committee before entering their last 28 hours of coursework in the JD and the third semester of the MBA

There may be extra fees required for joining a student association. Tuition and fees are reassessed annually and may increase.

The Haslam Full-Time MBA is fortunate to offer both graduate research and teaching assistantships which provide a university tuition waiver (excluding university and program fees) plus a stipend in exchange for 10 hours of weekly work. Fellowships are also available for exemplary candidates and do not require service.

Consideration for both is based on cumulative undergraduate GPA, test scores and employment history and awarded through the application process. No additional forms are necessary.
