If you are an industry professional interested in teaching CTE, you can find out what’s required for your area of expertise via the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) certification requirements database. Before you can submit your application for the specialized CTE certification known as Transitional-A Certification you must receive a nomination letter (job offer) from a school principal.

Success Via Apprenticeship Program (SVA)

The Success Via Apprenticeship Program (SVA) is a collaborative project of the NYC DOE, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), and the City University of New York (CUNY) designed to address the critical need for CTE teachers who have in-depth knowledge of both foundational pedagogy and the skills required in a specific industry. The SVA program recruits outstanding NYC high school graduates with a passion for teaching and learning and over a five-year period, which includes mentored teaching, industry apprenticeship, and postsecondary academic study shepherds them into CTE teaching roles. Schools Hiring a CTE Teacher

All CTE program courses in approved programs must be taught by CTE certified teachers. A CTE candidate must receive a nomination letter (job offer) from a school principal before they can apply for a Transitional-A Certification from NYSED.
