Zirconium Rod is made up of the metal zirconium. There are different grades of the metallic rods including the commercially pure ones. The oxide layer is thin and very much resistant to acids and alkalis. The hydrofluoric acid is an exception. The corrosive and reactive agents do not damage the oxide layer and therefore the rods remain intact. The metal is silvery looking and has very high melting point. The melting point of UNS R60705 Zirconium Round Bar is 1852 degrees Celsius. The high temperature resistance and the high corrosion resistance is used in crucibles, ceramics, abrasives and in bricks production. The oxide of zirconium also called the zirconia is used as an opacifier in enamels and pigments.

The ASME SB-550 Black Zirconium Round Bar as well as other finishes and grades are available. Due to the similar chemical properties shared by hafnium, the extraction of zirconium usually does not exclude hafnium. Hafnium is usually present in 4-5% of the composition. However the Zirconium 702 Round Bars can be used in high temperature and high strength applications with impurities. The pure zirconium is used in nuclear applications.
