A program of study that involves a multiyear sequence of courses that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

CTE has statistically significant positive impacts on several high school outcomes, such as students' academic achievement, high school completion, employability skills, and college readiness. There is no discernible impact on student discipline or attendance.

CTE courses prepare students for attaining tangible certifications and career opportunities, leading to more positive relationships between students and teachers while lowering dropout rates.

Middle school CTE classes tend to focus on developing general workplace skills, such as computer applications or career exploration. However, some middle schools also offer learners introductory courses in a specific CTE cluster, such as health science or agriculture.

Examples of General CTE Courses include Tourism, and Hospitality; Exploring Computer Science; and Healthcare; as well as Project Lead the Way courses (ex. Introduction to Engineering Design, Computer Integrated Manufacturing).

CTEs break down complex queries into smaller, more manageable parts. By naming each part and isolating it within a SQL CTE, developers can easily understand the purpose of each component and the overall query logic, making the code more readable.

Arts and media courses are especially popular, as are CTE courses in information technology, agriculture, and health. At community colleges, nearly 420,000 students (35%) participated in CTE. Arts and media is once again the most popular industry sector, followed by education, business, health, and public services.

CTE provides students with not only career and academic skills, but soft skills that are needed for the modern workplace, such as: critical thinking; communication; team work; citizenship, integrity, and ethical leadership; research tools; creativity; and innovation.

The more CTE courses students take, the better their education and labor market outcomes. Among other positive outcomes, CTE concentrators are more likely to graduate high school by 21 percentage points when compared to otherwise similar students.
